Yes, the Friedrich is an
eco-friendly hotel in South Tyrol

Yes, we know, there are those words again: eco-friendly, sustainability. Some people skip past when they read them. And it’s understandable, of course: every company puts them on their website, adds a label next to them, and hopes you’ll believe them. We could do the same.

Instead, we’d rather tell you how we heat our hotel, where our products come from, and why Christof is on first-name terms with his vegetable farmer.

We believe: to be an eco-friendly hotel in South Tyrol, you have to live and breathe sustainability. And we do. Because we love the Val d’Ega/Eggental valley. With its mountains, with its people. Are you ready to fall in love, too?

Yes, please, we’d like an eco-friendly holiday in South Tyrol

Friedrich is heated using district heating from the Val d’Ega/Eggental valley. The pool water undergoes salt electrolysis, which eliminates the need for chlorine, and the water is gentle and odourless on your skin. We hold the IDM South Tyrol Sustainability Label Level 2, and for us this is a milestone, not an end goal (though we are rather proud to be an officially certified sustainable hotel in South Tyrol). The food on your plate comes from producers who live in the same valley. Friedrich is a founding member of TASTE LOCAL and part of the Val d’Ega/Eggental valley pilot project “Regional Cycles”. You can find out exactly what this means in the list of our partners.

Friedrich’s fantastic partners

Speaking of partners: we’re proud of every single collaboration on this list. Behind every name lies a business that practises its craft with the same care that is so important to us. The Val d’Ega/Eggental valley is big enough to offer variety, yet small enough for everyone to know one another. That’s exactly how you build trust you can taste.

Why a boutique hotel?

The word “boutique” comes from French and originally referred to a small shop where the owner served every customer personally and selected every item on the shelves themselves. The idea behind a boutique hotel is exactly the same: every decision here bears our signature.

Our story begins with Christof’s parents. They built this hotel and dedicated themselves to making hospitality personal. Today, the torch has been passed to us, Christof and Katja, who are continuing the story with the same conviction. Our children grew up here, amongst the aromas of the kitchen and the fresh air of the Dolomites, with stories of family and guests that linger around the dinner table. The hotel is a passion that spans generations – another form of sustainability.

From “Charmehotel” to “Boutiquehotel”

For a long time, the name “Charmehotel Friedrich” was on our door. A lovely name, but at some point we realised it had become too restrictive for us. Charm is on the surface, and we wanted to go deeper. We wanted a word that captures how it really is here: that Christof and Konstantin prepare your meal themselves every evening, putting the same passion into every course – from the first to the fifth –, which you can really taste. That Katja and Annalena know your favourite table and recommend a hiking route in the morning that suits your mood. That we’ve deliberately chosen to have just 13 rooms and suites because we want our touch to be felt in every detail.

That’s also why we made another decision: adults only. Because we wanted to create a space where adults and young people aged 14+ can once again hear what’s deep inside them. Where your inner flame gets the oxygen it needs. Where the 13 rooms overlooking Mt Latemar echo what burns within you.

Echoes of you.

What is the IDM South Tyrol Sustainability Label Level 2?

The IDM South Tyrol Sustainability Label assesses businesses for environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance. Level 2 confirms that we are actively implementing measures across all areas. For us, this represents a milestone on the way to Level 3.

What are “TASTE LOCAL” and “Regional Cycles”?

TASTE LOCAL is an initiative that brings together restaurateurs and local producers. The Val d’Ega/Eggental valley pilot project “Regional Cycles” shortens delivery routes and strengthens cooperation within the valley. Friedrich is a founding member.

How does salt electrolysis work in the pool?

The pool water is purified using salt electrolysis rather than being treated with chlorine. The result is soft, odourless water that is gentle on the skin. You can find out more about our infinity pool and wellness area here.
